booking online

The European Commission has deployed a new initiative to boost the ICT market looking specifically at a specific sector which seems to respond better to the anti-crisis measures put in place. The industry ate the centre of this initiative is the Tourism and Hospitality. It is now common knowledge that the on-line booking of hotel rooms and services has become a standard expected by the consumers who are looking to spend some cash in that sector. In fact both private citizen and companies despite the crisis are continuing to have a demand for hotel rooms and travel packages with the only change that now days everyone is much more price sensitive and therefore the competition on the market has increased.

The preferred media for the on-line booking is the internet and as a consequence the hospitality structures are progressively looking at improving or creating their web platform to meet the demand.

In this scenario operates the European Commission’s initiative that has as target the competitiveness of small businesses in the European tourism sector and the creation of more jobs.

Full report can be obtained from the EU commission website offering also the opportunity to download many pdf documents containing information on particular aspect of the initiative.

These are the main steps that the Initiative will take to address the study of the tourism sector:

-        high-level group (HLG)analyse market evolution, identify needs and make recommendations

-        demonstration project to facilitate ICT aspects of cooperation

-        a portal to become the one stop shop

At Helios we have studied carefully this sector as we are directly involved in running marketing campaigns for ICT companies providing modular platform for hotels, restaurants and events venues.

From our research we have established that booking on line has come up as the 5th most popular search on the search engines showing also a growing trend supplying a strong evidence of a lively demand for services and products.

The ICT companies traditionally haven’t really explored this market, leaving the entire demand in the hands of very few specialised organizations that have made available a number of packages taking care only of the software needed for the implementation and leaving behind the hardware infrastructure. Today the challenge is to understand what kind of needs a generic hospitality structure has in terms of traditional ICT infrastructure in order to accommodate and sustain a profitable on-line booking platform able to manage multi channels sales (internet, mobile app, portal integration).

The illusionist Mariano Tomatis has published this video on his website. The video is gone viral quite rightly achieving so far in excess of 670K clicks on You Tube. Can anyone explain this trick?
